Formatting, Saving, Printing


This project is about introducing spreadsheet programs and familiarizing you with some common functions of almost all Microsoft Windows programs.  Your assignment is to use the MS-Excel spreadsheet program to construct a weekly schedule of your classes and activities.  The days of the week should be columns in the spreadsheet page and the hours of the day should be rows.  Use formatting commands to demonstrate your familiarity with a variety of formatting such as color, size, typeface, etc.  Consider the example schedule you can find by clicking here.  (Do NOT use this example as a base to do your own assignment.  Start your own spreadsheet from a blank page.)  Save your spreadsheet file to a disk (in an Excel-97 or Excel-2000 format) and print out the display.

In class we will talk about what a spreadsheet program is and we will introduce you to a few features of a spreadsheet program.  We will also talk about some common functions of Microsoft Windows programs, including opening files, saving files, previewing and printing files, about various ways of copying and inserting items, and about various ways of formatting items. We will construct an example of a weekly schedule to demonstrate the above features and functions.

You will need to turn in the following to the instructor on the date this assignment is due (check the class schedule):
  1) PRINTOUT #1:  A printed copy of your spreadsheet, showing the display in each cell,
       with your name and course ID number in the upper left corner.
  2) PRINTOUT #2:  None.
  3) DISK FILE:  A copy of the disk file on which you have saved your spreadsheet. 
       The name of the file on the disk should be "schedule.xls"
       The label on the disk should have YOUR NAME, and the words:
       ASSIGNMENT #02 -- MY SCHEDULE
       (You will need a copy of this file for your next assignment.  Save a second copy on a disk that you can use later.)
  4) OTHER:  None.
