Assignment / Project   Number  03

Importing & Attaching Files, Tables

This project is about word processing programs, but it is also about importing files into other programs.  Your assignment will be to use MS-Word to create a document which incorporates examples of each of the following:

An Example of Text (In Color)
An Example of Word-Art (Using Your Name, and Placed At The Top Left Of The Page.)
    A Piece of Clip-Art
    A Picture (.jpg or .gif)
A Spreadsheet  (The One of Your Schedule Would Be Good, But You Can Make Up Another One.)
    A Screen Capture
A Table (3 columns x 4 rows) With A Word or Number in Each Cell

Consider the example you can find by clicking here.  (Do NOT use this example as a base to do your own assignment.  Start your own assignment from a blank page.)

In class we will talk about MS-Word, a word processing program.  We expect that you will be familiar with word processing programs in general and that you will understand the basic operations of MS-Word, either because of your own experience with it or because of its similarity to the MS-Excel program.  (Or because your instructor shows you at the beginning of class.)  Therefore, in class we will explore some features of MS-Word that are often used at more advanced levels.  We will see how to use "Word-Art", how to insert pictures from picture files into a word processing document, and how to capture and insert "pictures" of the computer screen.  We will see how to import charts and spreadsheets into MS-Word documents.  And we will have had a brief introduction to the use of "Tables" and "Formulas".

You will need to turn in the following to the instructor on the date this assignment is due (check the class schedule):
  1) PRINTOUT #1:  A printed copy of your MS-Word document described above,
with your name (in WordArt) in the upper left corner.
  2) PRINTOUT #2:  None
  3) DISK FILE:  A copy of the disk file on which you have saved your document.
The name of the file on the disk should be "importing.doc"
The label on the disk should have YOUR NAME, and the words:
       ASSIGNMENT #03 -- MS-WORD
  4) OTHER:  None
