Rationale
Whereas a founding commitment and continuing accomplishment of SUNY's mission has been the preparation of quality teachers for the schools of New York State, and
Whereas the Senate has reviewed the report of the Advisory Council on Teacher Education(ACTE) and
Whereas, the quality of these campus-based programs is ultimately the result of the expertise and commitment of faculty on each campus
Resolution
Therefore be it resolved that the University Faculty Senate
Reaffirms the responsibility of the SUNY faculty for the content and structure of Teacher Education programs,
Applauds the professionalism that produced the ACTE report,
Strongly endorses the efforts of the Chancellor and the Provost to ensure that the faculty retain responsibility for the content and structure of the Teacher Education program, and further
Strongly endorses the ACTE Report and supports Chancellor King's charge to Provost Salins to develop an action agenda based on the ACTE report
