Rationale

Whereas the Association of Governing Boards(AGB) is the nation's premier association of college and university trustees, and

Whereas AGB, through its Center for Public Higher Education Trusteeship and Governance, has promulgated a policy statement regarding the selection of trustees at public colleges and universities, and

Whereas the University Faculty Senate has concluded that these recommendations can benefit the State University of New York

Resolution

Therefore be it resolved that the University Faculty Senate endorses the fundamental concepts contained in the policy statement, and

Be it further resolved, that the Senate supports the efforts of the New York State Public Higher Education Conference Board to see that this concept gains wide understanding and acceptance, and

Be it finally resolved that the Senate recommends that the SUNY Board of Trustees formally adopt this policy statement.
