Re: Resolution: Policy on Electronic Communication

RATIONALE

 

WHEREAS the use of various electronic communication technologies is increasing, such as the use of e-mall, the internet, the world-wide web, voice mail, and distance learning; and

 

WHEREAS faculty need to be informed of their rights, responsibility and liability in these emerging technologies; and

 

WHEREAS policies governing faculty usage of electronic communication have too often been written by administrative staff without faculty involvement; and

 

WHEREAS faculty should be involved in the development of these policies;

 

 

RESOLUTION

 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the University Faculty Senate recommends each local campus develop a policy on electronic communication.  This policy should be developed jointly with representatives of the local campus governance organization and the information services personnel.
