RE: Resolution Regarding Candidate Endorsements

RATIONALE
WHEREAS the University Faculty Senate has no history of endorsing political candidates; and
WHEREAS the Senate believes that by not endorsing political candidates it preserves the autonomy and integrity necessary to its role as the official agency through which the faculty and professional staff engage in the governance of the State University of New York; and
WHEREAS the Senate has recently joined the New York State Public Higher Education Conference Board (NYSPHECB), composed of some constituent elements that do endorse political candidates.
RESOLUTION
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate reaffirm its tradition of not endorsing political candidates nor giving the appearance of endorsing political candidates; and
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate calls upon the NYSPHECB to adopt the practice of neither endorsing political candidates nor giving the appearance of endorsing political candidates.
