RE: Resolution of Support for Chancellor King’s Vision Statement and the SUNY Budget Proposal for 2001-2002

DATE: January 26, 2001

Rationale

Whereas Chancellor Robert King has since his appointment met frequently and engaged in a collaborative and productive dialogue with the Senate and its leadership, and

Whereas Chancellor King in his December 19, 2000 Vision Statement has articulated a resolve to make SUNY the leading institution of higher education in the United States, and

Whereas the SUNY Budget Request for 2001-2002 approved by the Board of Trustees at its December meeting is a necessary and important component of the Chancellor’s initiative, and

Whereas, the Governor’s Executive Budget fails to include requested measures necessary for quality improvements critical to SUNY’s future

Resolution

Therefore be it resolved that the University Faculty

Senate endorses in principle the Chancellor’s Vision Statement and the Trustees Budget Request, and further

Be it resolved that the Senate and its leadership will work

to support all parties in the State who demonstrate their commitment to ensuring that SUNY take its place as the premier public institution of higher learning in the United States, and

Be it finally resolved that the Senate leadership, through its participation in SUNY Day and other efforts, will work assiduously to resolve SUNY’s historical and continuing resource issues.
